The Raj Bhawan, Itanagar, the official residence of His Excellency the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh is located on a hillock close to a historical monument known as ‘Ita-Fort’ (Eastern Gate). Spread over an area of approximately 27 acres, the compound is surrounded by absolute greenery and trees, which rejuvenate ones sprit and refresh ones soul.

The foundation of this Bhawan was laid by Late Shri K.A.A. Raja the then Lt. Governor of the Union Territory of Arunachal Pradesh on 17th April, 1977. Right from Shri Bhisma Narain Singh, the first Governor of Arunachal Pradesh to present, the Bhavan has been the official residence of seventeen governors.

Nestled in mesmerizing pose, over looking the capital city, the Raj Bhavan consists of main 2-storeyed building, Secretariat building, Darbar Hall and a Guest house.

The main building comprises of Governor’s suite with attached dining and study rooms, three guest rooms namely ‘Tirap,’ ‘Lohit’ and ‘Siang’ on 1st floor and 2 guest rooms namely ‘Kameng’ and ‘Subansiri’ on the ground floor. Apart from these there are three annexed rooms; ‘Tawang,’ ‘Dirang’ and ‘Changlang’ for the guests. Embodied with traditional tribal hospitality, it has hosted Presidents, Prime Ministers, Union Ministers and many important dignitaries since 1982.

Office room of Governor, where he attends official papers and conducts meetings, ADC’s room and office rooms of staffs are in the ground floor. There is one library room and meeting halls namely Gandhi Hall, Siddharth Hall on the ground floor and Gayatri Hall on the 1st floor. There are two kitchens – the private kitchen of H.E. is on the 1st floor. The kitchen at ground floor is meant for guests and occasional parties.

Dotted with lush green lawns, flower gardens, it has the finest nature views.

The compound is embed with ninety odd beds of roses, antirrhinum, dianthus, impatient,marigold, poppy, pansy, petunia, phlox, salvia, gerbera, nasturtium, zinnia and begonia along with dahlia and gladiolus adore the compound. Two orchid houses have been set up, which has five varieties of exotic orchids and thirty-one of indigenous ones. Bee keeping and poultry along with kitchen garden are important section of the compound.

The Raj Bhawan has a Billiard room, a gym, a lawn tennis court and a badminton court. The compound has a beautiful nine-hole golf course. It also has a fish pond, a poultry and a dairy farm. There is a Helipad attached to the Raj Bhawan.
