Governor reviews security measures in Tirap

Itanagar, Sep 3: Arunachal Governor, Gen J.J Singh reviewed the security measures being adopted in Tirap district in the run-up to the Assembly Elections to be held on October 13 next at Khonsa on Sep 2.

Interacting with the high ranking civil, security and defence officials, the Governor said that district administration and security forces must work in close coordination adding that developmental aspects must be taken care of and the youth should be engaged in meaningful ventures to wean away from going astray. He said that law of the land will prevail and that those who defy it would be dealt with firmly. While lauding the civil administration and the security forces for their effort in creating conducive atmosphere for all round development, Gen Singh said the surrenderees of various underground outfits should be properly rehabilitated and that their services be utilized in effectively countering insurgency activities in the district.

The Governor was highly impressed by the presentations made on various facets of the district by the Deputy Commissioner and the Sector Commander, AR. It may be mentioned here that the Governor had in the past served in many outposts of Tirap district as army officer and is well-versed with the problems of the locals.

Tirap Deputy Commissioner, Ankur Garg in his presentation on administrative preparedness and security deployment plan for the forth coming Assembly Elections appraised the Governor on poll preparations made circle-wise and polling station wise. He explained to him in details regarding distribution of polling stations, road connectivity and other features of the district. He said that successful conduct of last Panchayat and Lok Sabha Elections was the result of excellent coordination between the district administration and the security agencies operating in the district. The Sector Commander of 25 Sector, Assam Rifles in his briefing threw light on the ground realities vis--vis activities of underground factions and steps being initiated by the Assam Rifles. He said that the porous border with Myanmar was facilitating the movement of ultras. He also enlightened the participants on various civic action programmes undertaken by the Assam Rifles for the welfare of the local people.

GOC, 2 Mount Div. Maj. Gen B.S. Sachhar, State Home Commissioner Tajom Taloh, Secretary to Governor P.S. Lokhande, senior officers of armed forces, Assam Rifles and CRPF security officers attended the all important meeting.

Earlier, the Governor accompanied by the First Lady and other dignitaries was accorded a warm reception on his arrival at Khonsa helipad and was received by GOC, 2 Mount Div., Deputy Commissioner, and other officers, reports PRO to Governor with inputs from DIPRO, Tirap.
