Governor appeals for the cause of Arunachalees

Itanagar, Dec. 9: The Chetwode Motto, the credo of the Academy, engraved on the entrance to the central hall, Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, which says, "The safety, honour and welfare of your country come first, always and every time. The honour, welfare and comfort of the men you command come next. Your own ease, comfort and safety come last, always and every time." Alumni of the academy and Arunachal Pradesh Governor Gen JJ Singh have taken it to his heart. Always thinking for the welfare of the Arunachalees, the Governor requested the Chancellor of KLE University, Belgaum, Karnataka for their help in improving the education sector in the State. Gracing as the chief guest of annual convocation of the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum under KLE University, Gen Singh urged upon them, especially the cardiologists to come to Arunachal Pradesh and carry out free camps. Gen Singh said, the national objective of inclusive growth extends into the medical field to mean inclusive health, which means providing accessible, affordable and quality healthcare to all.

Expressing confident that all stakeholders - Central and State Governments as well as the private sector will contribute to this endeavor, the Governor, who earlier gave away the graduation certificates to 125 students pointed, the doctor to patient ratio is about 1:1500, while the recommended ratio is 1:250. There is an acute shortage of doctors in rural areas. Millions of our brethren living in villages have little access to quality medical care. I urge young doctors of the country to devote some years of their professional lives to working in rural areas by responding positively to the call of the Government to take up rural postings for those of you who will join government service, which are very important. Undoubtedly, all of you have certain career goals which are important. At the same time you also have social responsibilities and a duty towards nation building. By serving in rural areas not only would you be doing good work for the nation, but the stint will be a valuable addition to your professional experience. It would also be an opportunity to get to know your country more closely and you are needed there the most, he stressed. Never missing an opportunity to plead for denizens of the State, he offered open invitation to any specialized medical practitioner to Arunachal Pradesh, whom he said will be treated like a State Guest if they come for social service.

Responding to the request of the Governor, Chancellor KLE University Prashakar Kore agreed to conduct free camps in the State. Touched by the appeal of Gen Singh, Kore further informed that they are ready to provide free heart surgeries for poor patients of the Arunachal Pradesh and any serious heart case of the State may be referred there. Showing enthusiasm, the medical fraternity of the intuition, assured free camps, especially for cleft cases and other medical awareness campaigns.

It may be mentioned here that Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum has 46 years of distinguished academic record to develop high standards of medical education in the country. The KLE Society and University have rendered a sterling contribution in the field of education since 1916. It is now known for its comprehensive facilities for teaching, research and patient care.

Earlier, in the day, Gen Singh, who is also an Honorary Colonel of the Maratha Light Infantry, visited its Centre, which is located at Belgaum. He was given ceremonial guard on his arrival to the regimental centre. As tradition, Gen Singh paid homage to martyrs. As a behold gesture, former chief of mighty Indian Army donated twenty medals, which was awarded to him during his illustrious and distinguished service in army. He also donated the golden trophy won for golf in Srinagar to the centre.
