Chief of Army staff designated calls on Governor

Itanagar, March 10: Chief of Army Staff designated, Lt Gen VK Singh, GOC-in-C, called on state Governor Gen J.J Singh at Raj Bhavan here today. Bharati Singh, wife of Lt Gen VK Singh and Lt Gen Gyan Bhushan, GOC 4 Corps, Tezpur accompanied the Chief designated, reports PRO to Governor.

            Former Chief of the Indian Army, Gen Singh congratulated Lt Gen VK Singh on being designated as the 24th Chief of Army Staff and extended his best wishes for a successful tenure.

            Sharing his experiences as the Governor in the last two years, Gen Singh said, army has done good humanitarian service in Arunachal Pradesh. It is the state, where we have best of cooperation and coordination of Army and Civil administration. Referring Arunachal Scouts and stressing on more Sadbhavana programmes of the Army in the State, the Governor urged upon designated Chief to be more proactive and take leading role in giving impetus to infrastructure development in this frontier region. People here are very patriotic and look up to the Army with great regards and aspirations, he added.

            While dwelling in length on strategic importance of Arunachal Pradesh, Gen Singh pointed that their visit sends a clear message on the priorities laid by the country.

            You have a great role to play, Gen Singh said to Bharati Singh, wife of Lt Gen VK Singh pointed at the responsibilities of the spouse of Army Chief, while reiterating his wife, Anupama Singh, State First Lady and former President of Army Wives Welfare Association, who also was present in the meeting.

Lt Gen Singh informed that realizing the importance to the two Corps stationed in Northeast region, we are giving them more than what they have projected for.

As tradition of Arunachalee, Governor presented a Mishmi Pipe, Adi Galuk (Coat) to Lt Gen Singh and an Apatani Shawl to Lt Gen Gyan Bhushan, GOC 4 Corps, Tezpur, while the State First lady presented a Mishmi Lady’s Shawl to Mrs. Singh. Lt Gen Singh in turn presented a memento of Eastern Command to the former Chief, the report added.
