Tapi Mra calls on Governor

ITANAGAR, June 12: First and only Arunachalee Mountaineer, who reach the world highest mountain, Mount Everest, Tapi Mra called on the Arunachal Pradesh Governor Gen JJ Singh at Raj Bhavan here on June 11 last.

 As a token of love, Tapi presenteded a rock from the Mount Everest and his summit photograph to the Governor. Gen Singh in-turn handed over a bank draft of Rs. 50,000.00 (Rupees Fifty Thousand) only, which he promised to Mra during the climb.

A keen mountaineer himself, Gen Singh enthusiastically asked on the details of the routes, facilities and matters related to the Mount Everest. He also asked about the Hillary Step. The Governor urged upon Mra to contribute in the proposed mountaineering institute in Arunachal Pradesh. He also assured formal recognition from Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling. During the lively meeting, the Governor congratulated Tapis mother for the achievement of his son.

State first lady, Anupama Singh, who was present in the meeting asked about cordial relationship with other mountaineers during such attempts, which Mra answers each one have to look after himself.
Mra, who was accompanied by his mother and close relatives, gave a detail of the climb and informed that it took 53 hours and 40 minutes to reach the summit from the base camp. Tapi added, if he was not injured due to night climbing, he could have done it with 24 hours. Mra also narrated some incidents of accident due to avalanches and near disaster happenings, reports PRO to Governor.
