Governor Visits Harmuty Railway Station-
Harmuty to Itanagar Railway Project will boost local economy

Itanagar, Feb. 16: The railway project will boost the local economy, said Arunachal Pradesh Governor Gen JJ Singh, while interacting with railway officials at Harmuti Railway Station on Feb.16. The local populace must feel that it is their project. Involvement of people is must for success of any project, he added, reports PRO to CM.

Commenting of the model of proposed Naharlagun Railway Station, Gen. Singh stressed on use of cane and bamboo items in its furnishing. It should have ethnic flavor. It will indirectly help in involvement of local people and give impetus in their socio-economic development, he pointed.

Governor calling for cooperation from neighboring State of Assam said, with 20 to 30 thousand crores worth projects are coming up in Arunachal Pradesh but as downstream effect, one third of the amount will go to Assam economy. Therefore, there is need that Assam also sees it as its own and help in early implementation of railway project. Moreover, it is important for national security. He hoped with direct monitoring of the Prime Minister’s Office and Third Party Monitoring, it will be implemented properly and in time.

Gen Singh, who have been travelling a lot in the Northeastern Frontier Railways during his twelve years of his service life said, it is the lifeline and we need to maintain it properly.
Interacting with the Railway officials, the Governor abreast himself on the details of the board gauge project from Rangiya to Murkongselek, which he felt will have direct impact on the economy of the people of Arunachal Pradesh. He also enquired on the basic facilities, ticketing and other amenities in the stations along the track.

While making a round of the Station, Governor asked the Rangiya Railway Divisional manager for upgrading and proper maintenance the Harmuti Station. The rest rooms, bathrooms and place should be clean and hygienic. Adequate fund should be provided for it, as it will be important junction in two years.

Earlier, on his arrival to the Station, the Governor was received by the Rangiya Railway Divisional manager Satender Kumar and Station Master KK Chetri. A guard of honour by the Assam Police was accorded to him.

            Chief Engineer B.K. Tirkey, Northeastern Frontier Railway, Maligaon briefed the Governor on the status of work of Harmuti-Itanagar new board gauge line project. He informed that the first phase of the project will be completed by 2012. Citing slow pace of land acquisition in Assam portion and interstate land dispute, Chief Engineer requested the Governor for his good office in expediting the work. Already 1.3 km of work in the railway land has been completed and 4 km in Arunachal Pradesh is going to be completed very soon.

            Later, along with First Lady Anupama Singh and Secretary to Governor Ankur Garg, Gen Singh availed the ride from Harmuti to Gogamukh to see for himself the basic facilities and other provisions provided to the passengers, adds the report.
