Opinion Leaders calls on Arunachal Governor

Itanagar, Nov. 20: We are promoting optimum use of natural resources in all other activities, said Arunachal Pradesh Governor Gen JJ Singh, while interacting with a group of fifteen Opinion Leaders comprising of Social Workers, NGO Activists, Health Workers, Journalists and Students at Raj Bhavan here today. Concrete and plastic are not encouraged here. The Green gold, the bamboos, which is replacing the wood in the world and is found in abundant here in the State, is exploited for promotion of entrepreneurship, employments and financial empowerment in the State, he added while referring to the Poma Bamboo Processing centre.

Dwelling in length on the development activities in the State, Gen Singh said, the StateGovernment is promoting tourism in a big way and on hydropower projects. Organic farming, orchid, honey and horticulture are some of the focus sectors. He also threw light on the Trans Arunachal highway, airport and railway projects.

Gen Singh, who spend his childhood days and the Commander of 9 Marathas in Andhra Pradesh recalled his time in the State and had a lively interaction with the opinion leaders who called on him at Raj BHavan. Later the Governor also showed them the bamboo produces of the State and honey cultivate at Raj Bhavan.

Impressed by the initiatives of the Governor, one of the senior members pointed, in other state governors are not very active. But for you and for Arunachal Pradesh it is different, which is appreciated and very motivating. An ideal for all Indian, he added.

Some members expressed their surprise on the practices in Raj Bhavan like kitchen garden, poultry and water harvest fishery etc. which they felt should be replicated in other states.
Itanagar Field Publicity Joint Director Raj Kumar informed the basic aim of this programme is to make Opinion Leaders aware of various developmental activities going on in different parts of the country so that when they go back to their respective states, they may also try to organize or replicate similar activities. The tour is organized by the Directorate of Field Publicity, Andhra Pradesh Region on the initiative of Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Govt. of India.

The team has visited State Forest Research Institute, Chimpu, saw the Geological and Non Timber Forest Products Museum at SFRI. They visited also visited Van Vihar Kendra at Chessa.
