Tapi Mra creates history; scales Mt Everest,
Governor congratulates Mra

ITANAGAR, May 22: Tapi Mra, 24 years old mountaineer from Arunachal Pradesh has created a historical milestone for Arunachal Pradesh by being the first Arunachalee to scale the mighty Mount Everest.

Mra, who was accompanied by a Sherpa climber Karma Sherpa, accomplished his mission by his indomitable spirit and physical grit this morning. Starting last night at 9 pm from South Col, they scaled the summit of the Mt. Everest at 06.40 AM to augur a new dawn atop the Everest exemplifying the exhilarating zenith of adventure and freedom of human spirit. They are on the way back from summit of the peak yesterday i.e May 21 last.

State Governor, Gen JJ Singh, who all along has extended his support and has keenly monitored his progress right from the Base Camp has expressed his happiness on this historic accomplishment.

In a message, Gen Singh said, ‘today, you have made all Arunachalees proud. It is a red letter day for all of us including the people of north east. You have reached the pinnacle of your chosen profession. Your achievement will always be looked upon as a path breaking endeavor, which truly depicts the potential of our brave and energetic youth'.

The Governor has also expressed that this feat will be a harbinger for more adventure and the spirit of excellence which epitomizes our youth. A mountaineer himself and trained under world renowned mountaineers, late Tenzing Norgay and Nawang Gombu, Gen Singh all along have been giving moral and logistic support to Mra. Before going for the Everest expedition, Governor had invited him and gave him some finer points for the Mission, reports PRO to Governor.

State Government, led by the State Governor and Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu, Tagin Welfare Society, Upper Subansi district and Taro Opey Founbdation, Ziro have provided finance and all other administrative support to Mra.

Born on December 12 1985 and son of late Nyamin Mra, who belongs to from Raw Village of Lemeking in Upper Subansiri, Mra is a keen adventure sports enthusiast and did his basic mountaineering course from HMI, Darjeeling, he also has taken a certificate course in paragliding from Manali and in water sports from Pongdam in Himachal Pradesh, the report added.
