HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR GEN (RETD) JJ SINGH RECEIVED MOTHER TERESA LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

It is a moment of pride for all the Arunachalees that our Governor His Excellency Gen (Retd) J J Singh, PVSM, AVSM, VSM has received Mother Teresa Lifetime Achievement Award for ‘Social work and Service to the Nation’ on Saturday the 26th April, 2008 in an impressive function at Kolkata. The Award was presented by Rt. Rev. P.S.P. Raju Bishop of Kolkata.

Mother Teresa 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th International Awards have been presented in the past years, to the following renowned personalities by the Mother Teresa’s International & Millennium Awards Committee, Kolkata. These prominent personalities have worked tirelessly for peace and harmony and served the underprivileged sections of society and the poorest of the poor in India and other countries. They are Sri Jyoti Basu, Late King Mahendra of Nepal, Mrs. Hillary Clinton, Late Rajiv Gandhi, Mrs. Hema Malini and Rev. Fr. Luciano Colussi, S.D.B.

During the function His Excellency the Governor told the gathering about importance of voluntary social work initiated by saintly personalities like Mother Teresa. He wished that similar voluntary activities to help the poor, sick and needy starts all over the country to reach the poorest of the poor. Taking this opportunity, he also appealed to the Bengali community who are known for their love for adventure and travel, to come and explore Arunachal Pradesh as a tourist destination.

H E General JJ Singh, was also the chief guest for this function, and it was attended by Justice Shyamal Sen, Chairman, Human Rights Commission of West Bengal, Rt Rev Raju, Bishop of Kolkata Rani P K Devi Rana, Member of Royal family of Nepal and many other prominent persons. Among others who were honoured at the function were Rani Mukherjee, Bollywood Actor, who was presented the award by His Execellency Gen (Retd) JJ Singh along with Shri Dhanraj Pillai (Hockey), Shri Samar Banerjee (Former Captain of Indian Football Team), Shri Aktar Ali (Former Tennis Player), Mr Sudesh Bhosle and Mr. Anup Jalota.

Shri Dorjee Khandu, Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh has conveyed felicitations on behalf of the entire state for the great achievement of His Excellency The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh.
