Kaabil-e-Taarif: Governor to Media

Itanagar, Dec. 30:  Your contributions have been kaabil-e-taarif. You are one of the valued members of Team Aruanchal said Arunachal Pradesh Governor Gen. J. J. Singh while interacting with senior members of Fourth Estate at Raj Bhawan on 29th Dec. last. In the past one year, you did a wonderful job in molding the people’s minds towards thinking for the development of the State. Be it creating awareness on environmental and developmental issues or free and fair reporting on law and order related issues, you have done your job exceedingly well, he added. He also complemented some media houses for launching internet editions of their dailies as a result of which their newspapers are now available even in the remotest corner of the State early in the morning, reports PRO to Governor.

Exhorting the media persons to continue their valued contributions towards the development of the State, especially financial empowerment of Arunachalee, Gen. Singh stressed on highlighting double cropping initiatives, importance of forming self-help groups for entrepreneurs, tourism initiatives and Afforestation. Most importantly, accountability of every citizen, be it the minister, or a villager or the last man in the governance has to be ensured, he added.

While demonstrating them vegetables grown through organic means at Raj Bhawan garden, Gen. Singh urged upon the media to encourage organic farming in the State by highlighting its immense potential and varied benefits.

Reviewing the several promising developments in the State over the last one year, the Governor mentioned that never in the past had the President, the Vice-President, the Prime Minister, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission visited the State within the same year. The successful and peaceful conduct of both the Assembly Elections and the Parliamentary Elections is a proof of the strong belief of the people of Arunachal Pradesh of Indian in the strong democratic traditions of the country. The completion of Siang Bridge, conquest of Mount Everest by our very own ace climber Tapi Mara and progress of the works on The Assembly Building, the Secretariat, Itanagar Greenfield Airport Project and the Harmuti-Itanagar rail link were other significant achievements of the year. The State has witnessed a strong development thrust with the increase in pace of implementation of various projects of PM’s package. The Governor further said that ours is one of the few States where there is an excellent relationship and rapport between the Raj Bhawan and the State Govt.

Agreeing with the comments of the editors of print media of the State, Gen. Singh said that for any development activity, time schedules have to be maintained. All development activities also need vigilance and monitoring. If Arunachal Pradesh has political stability and the law and order is secured, peace and prosperity is guaranteed, he stated. Highlighting the surrender of 51 ultras of various UG organizations in Tirap during the year, the Governor said the surrender policy is under the active and sympathetic consideration of the State Govt. and the adoption of this policy will further encourage the misguided youth to return to the mainstream.

Gen. Singh showered special praise on the young deputy commissioner of the State who are full of ideas and initiatives and are taking a keen interest in the development of the State. My Deputy Commissioners are my strength, he added.

Speaking on his priorities in the coming year, Gen. Singh talked of several exciting projects in the pipeline in the State including the setting up of National Institute of Technology, Medical College, Law College, Institute of Hotel Management and National Institute of Mountaineering. Health and Education shall continue to be priority sectors and special focus will be laid on harnessing the energies of the youth in motivating them towards self-employment.

Gen Singh also talked about the Raj Bhawan initiative of setting up the Bamboo Processing Center at Poma village, a project which has now assumed multiple dimensions with several departments coming together to take up integrated development of the village. It will be a model on guiding village communities to develop self-sustaining income generating projects and a step further in realizing Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of self-sufficient village economies.

The media fraternity, which included editors from print media, AIR and DD appreciated the efforts of the Raj Bhawan and urged upon the Governor to continue his valuable guidance to them in the coming year also.
